For Patti Tetu, new teacher at Riverview Elementary School, it is like coming home.
The former Riverview student graduated from Lakehead University in April from the concurrent education program.
Following that she travelled to England where she supply taught for about three months. She really enjoyed that but said that some days it took over 2 hours to get to work.
“This is nice, just having to cross the street to get to work,” said Tetu.
She is filling a maternity leave position for Anne Caradice and is teaching grades junior kindergarten to six. She is offering instruction in several areas including music, physical education, social studies, drama and art.
The room she is teaching in is where she herself spent grade five. Feeling at home, she hopes that after the maternity position is done she will be able to find a job within the system. “I like the area, it is where all my friends and family are.”
In addition to her teaching duties she has volunteered to help with extracurricular activities. She will be helping coach grades seven and eight volleyball and will be coaching senior girls basketball at Rainy River High School.
