As if winning NORWOSSA gold last week wasn’t enough, Kenzie Godin, 14, of Rainy River, has an opportunity to compete for even bigger gold at the upcoming Ontario Winter Games!
Kenzie, the daughter of Dan and Stacy Godin, travelled to Fort Frances on Jan. 28th for Region 1 Girls volleyball tryouts (14 and under).
Guidance councillor at Rainy River High School, Georgina Jarvis provided the information and encouraged Kenzie to attend. She is definitely glad she did as she was selected to play on the team and named a captain!
Since that time she has been travelling to Kenora weekly for practises and two weekends ago they travelled to Portage La Prairie, MB, where they competed and won 9 of 12 sets, against regional teams there!
Ontario is divided into eight regions, with each region sending a team to compete in the Ontario Winter Games March 8-11, 2012 in Collingwood, Ont. Kenzie will be one of approx. 2,200 athletes at the games!
The Ontario Volleyball Association covers the first $500 of her travel to the games. However, that is not enough to pay for everything, so she is soliciting sponsors. The Rainy River Legion helped her out last week giving her a $200 donation!
She is one of 12 players selected from the region to be on the team. The region runs from the Manitoba border all the way to Wawa on the other side of Thunder Bay!
