Chamber Chat: Trenchard now leads Chamber of Commerce

By Richard Trenchard
President RRCC

The Rainy River and District Chamber of Commerce met to begin the season and elect officers recently. The results were as follows: President-Richard Trenchard, Vice-President-Dennis Watson, Treasurer-Jeri Irish and Secretary-Meghan Shanks.
It was decided that the membership dues will remain at their current prices.
Work on the trade show, a great community event, is underway.
The Chamber will help with the recruitment and retention of medical doctors in the community.
It was decided that currently we will focus mainly on the trade show.
Between this and the second meeting held a few days later many very good ideas were thrown out that could benefit all who live here. A few of these great ideas were creating Doctor welcome packages for locums in hope they may return or even stay, changing the name of the C of C to a pseudonym “The Rainy River District Improvement Association,” hold a local crafts show, improving the 1st of July celebrations, creating a village tour featuring “Rainy Rivers seven wonders” and building a large White Tail Deer in the town square.
Google Places is allowing businesses to enter their information onto its system for free, when a visitor searches our area it would be great for them to find a lot of services listed, this will make the area much more attractive.
We also need to improve our area’s upkeep of web sites; there is nothing worse than searching the internet to find a poorly maintained or out of date web site.
I hope that our C of C will be able to address all of these great ideas and move on as many as we can as well as create a new and much more attractive web site.
I hope that we can regain some of the old members that have worked so hard for our community in the past and make the C of C as great as it was in the recent past. What the former members did for our Community was phenomenal and a great boost to us all.
With the onset of mining in the area there is great potential for growth here if we can play our cards right and attract the right people.
The Chamber welcomes all to their meetings and as many comments and suggestions as we are working to better our community, our area is filled with great people with great idea’s all we need is for you step forward.
The next meeting will be March 16th at Noon at the Roadside Restaurant.
Remember that when you support a local business the money stays local and that business can provide you with services.
