The Rainy River and District Chamber of Commerce held a busy and productive meeting September 30th.
The chamber is working with the centennial committee to have a special coin minted for Rainy River’s 100th anniversary next year. Coin samples were dropped off by Centennial Committee Chair Gord Armstrong. Chamber President Lindal is still working on getting more information on getting the coins minted for the centennial.
The chamber agreed to purchase a wreath for Remembrance Day. It will be laid at the cenotaph on November 11, 2003.
President Lindal said she has been speaking with Geoff Gillon at RRFDC on a proposal to get a Fednor Youth Internship program to hire someone to work out of Rainy River on Mom’s Way.
Chamber representative to the Rainy River Walleye Tournament, Sarah Berg, reported that the RRWT is considering moving its tournament days from Saturday and Sunday to Friday and Saturday like most other tournaments do.
Jordan Forbes of RRFDC reported that they hope that they will hear about their application to provide broadband from Rainy River to Lac La Croix some time next month. RRFDC is also working on a community portal that will help link all the websites in the district to one spot.
A date was chosen for the annual Santa Claus Parade. Friday November 28/03 will be the parade and Merchant Madness will be held that day and the next day.
The annual Chamber Christmas Party and Chamber AGM will be held November 29/03. Lindal, Monique Gall and Monica Nelson will work on the AGM/Christmas Party.
The next meeting of the chamber will be Oct. 28/03 at 7 pm. at the legion.
