Giving credit where it is due
Dear Editor,
It seems impossible that the weekend we worked for, waited for, worried about is just a memory now; but, what Fantastic Memories!
Talk, talk, talk, smile, laugh. Do you remember me? Remember when? What a terrific homecoming. The weekend was a tremendous success! The people of Rainy River can be extremely proud of their efforts. The yards looked great, everybody fixed up, painted up, cleaned up - the town looked like a million.
I had the privilege of chairing this event but I want to assure you that my efforts would have been futile without the diligent effort of so many people.
All those who chaired the different committee’s should take a bow, they are: Susan Douglas - Vice Chair; Dawn Jarvis - Treasurer; Bunny Gaudry & Heidi Ivall - Food; Melanie Murray - Homecoming; Norma Elliott - Events; Jack Elliot - Promotion; Pat Berg & Gill Stamler - Fundraising; Harry Arnould - Parade; Wayne McCarthy - History & Photo’s; John Trenchard - Logistics; Don Ricci - Web Site; Marlene McNally - Town Beautification; Rec Centre - Monique Gall; Registration - Melanie Murray, Norma Elliott, Jeanette Armstrong; Town Rep - Deb Ewald; Cook Books - Tiffany (Murray) Burbeck.
It has been a pleasure to work with you this past two years.
When you have a team of “all stars’” its hard to pick out the “super stars” but even when the NHL has their “all star” game someone rises to the occasion and leads the team, and wins the car. Well we have no cars for our all stars but I will give them special mention.
They are: Crystal Lindal - Centennial Co-ordinator; Jack Elliott - Centennial assist co-ordinator and the Rainy River Legion.
But the real super stars were the people who came from far and near to touch our hearts with your friendship and your big smiles. Thank you for coming. It was a weekend to remember!!
Sincerely,
Gord Armstrong
