Growing up in a large family during the years of the Depression had little effect on her childhood and taught each of the children what life was all about. She had eight brothers and three sisters. Anna had a carefree childhood and loved bike-riding for hours on all the country rock especially in the fall with all the colours. She and her girlfriend, Gerry Olson, also spent a lot of time horseback riding. They also loved going to Church. Anna was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all her life. When she was 14 years old she went to work with her grandparents at Calvert’s Camp where she worked until she was 18.
Then she went to Hanson’s Camp and worked for 3 1/2 years. While working there she met the love of her life, Joseph Carswell and they were married in 1952. They settled in Sioux Narrows and then moved to Nestor Falls where they built and operated Woodland Freezer.

Then they bought Mackenzie Lodge in Kenora and spent the rest of their working years in the tourist business and loved it. They had six children. Donald (deceased) and five girls, Marie Alcock, Colleen (Neil) MacAlpine, Cecile (Dan) Marcino, Mona (Mike) Kover, and Sandra (Donna). While growing up they were a happy family. After selling the lodge

they spent the next 26 years travelling; throughout most of the USA, including Hawaii and Alaska, Canada, Mexico, and Europe. The last 12 winters of travelling were spent in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. It became their home away from home.
Anna was a loving wife, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. She had 10 grandchildren: Jeff, Joey and Jada Alcock, Jeanine and Nathan MacAlpine, BJ and Patrick Marcino, Tim, Keith and Josh Kover and six great grandchildren: Matthew, Amy (Jeff and Agnes) Gavin, Ethan and Evan (Joe and Jennifer) and Aedan (Jeanine and Kyle). Anna was a good homemaker and her door was always open to company. She loved people and loved doing crocheting and needle point. She was a good cook and no one ever left her home hungry. Most of all she loved her family. Time spent with them either babysitting or travelling was always a time to make memories to cherish. She had 90 photographs albums of family and times spent together.
Now Mom, enjoy your travels with Dad and Don, they are waiting for you. We’ll miss you Mom and thank-you for the memories. Till we meet again.
