Historic voyage retraced

Ken Johnston

The public is invited to experience some history at Hannam Park this Wednesday.
The annual trek of the Lakehead University Voyageurs will bring them to Rainy River this week.
Ten students and two chaperones left from Fort Frances on Sunday to travel the original route of the voyageurs. They will be arriving in Rainy River tonight (Tuesday) and plan to put on a show, free of charge for the public Wednesday morning around 10 a.m.
The students are part of the LU Outdoor Recreation, Parks and Tourism program. Every year the third year students plan a trip using the giant voyageur canoes owned by the university. Then they actually make the trip in the summer. This group has been planning since January.
Nicki Youroukos, spokesperson for the group, said that the public should come and participate. “We will be playing games, singing songs and explaining the historical culture of the voyageurs.”
The trip will last 13 days and will take them to Sioux Narrows.
