The Masons of Western District, which includes 765 members in 10 lodges from west of Thunder Bay to the Ontario/Manitoba border recently donated over $20,500 to the Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation for the campaign that has brought a CT Scanner to Northwestern Ontario.
The donation was presented to the Hospital and its Foundation by District Deputy Grand Master, Right Worshipful Brother Jack Devins of Pequonga Lodge in Kenora. Members from the District Lodges attended the ceremony at the 2004 meeting.
This fundraising project was carried out in conjunction with the Masonic Foundation of Ontario and the Grand Lodge of Ontario which will be celebrating its sesquicentennial (150th) anniversary in 2004-2005. To mark this historic moment in Ontario Masonry, the Foundation will provide up to $3,500 for a District charitable project which promotes the presence of Masonry locally.
“The Lake of the Woods District Hospital CT Scan project, which will benefit all citizens of Northwestern Ontario certainly fulfilled that criteria,” said Kenora Worshipful Brother, Terry Dunbar. “We picked a project that our Lodges across the District really got behind. Everyone agreed that they either have or will have personal contact with the healthcare system in the future.” Mr. Dunbar continued, “all of the money raised, came from the individual members of the Lodges and not from public fund raisers or outside sources.”
Patrick Matiowski, Managing Director of the Lake of the Woods District Hospital Foundation appreciated the news. Matiowski commented, “The support across the region for the hospital is incredible. We are grateful the Masons of Western District decided to support our campaign”.
