Lolke (Louie) Wiersema, 75
Louie Wiersema of Rainy River passed away peacefully, August 31, 2004 at the Rainy River Hospital.
Louie was born December 21, 1929 in Holland and later immigrated with his family to Winnipeg, MB in April 1952. From Winnipeg, the Wiersema family moved to Rainy River to farm. Louie moved to Atikokan where he worked as a milkman and breadman. It was in Atikokan he met the lovely Elsa Romyn whom he married November 1, 1954.
With farming still in his blood and with his new family he purchased a farm in Gameland and worked other jobs and hired on the CNR until retirement. Louie & Elsa moved close to Rainy River in the early 80’s and then to a home in Rainy River February 2003.
Louie is survived by his wife Elsa, and his children Ed (Colleen) of Fort Frances, Ben (Donna) of Fort Frances, Dianna (Bill) Bourke of Witt, Illinois, Theresa (Bill) Bousfield of Dryden, Sandra (Stan) Barton of Calgary, and Les (Audra) of Fort Frances. Louie has thirteen grandchildren, Jason, Jeff, Andrew, Sean, Ashley, Kimberly, Derek, Julie, Dean, Charles, Rebecca, Richard & Kayla. The grandchildren all have fond memories of Grandpa Louie. Louie is also survived by his brothers & sisters, Fred (Klazien), his twin sister Thea (Thys) Sinninghe, Annie (Hank) Baker, Bertha (Don) Dieleman, Jean (sister-in-law), Ann VanLeeuwen, John (Hetty), Archie (Eleanor), Corrie (Janice), Eltjo (Dorothy), Henry (Jean), Mary (sister-in-law), Grace (sister-in-law), Lottie (Archie) Schanowki, Anneke (Nelson) Brown. Louie has numerous nieces and nephews.
Louie is predeceased by his parents Jan (John) and Froukye nee VanZwol, and brothers Nick, Harry, Bernie, and brother in law Bert VanLeeuwen.
Louie enjoyed fishing, winter and summer. He loved his visits with his family & friends. Louie will be sadly missed by all.
His funeral was held at the Christian Reform Church in Emo on September 3, 2004. In lieu of flowers and if friends & family desire, in memoriam donations may be made to the Arthritis Society, Diabetes Association or charity of your choice.
