Morson W.I. Report

T. Rosemary Laevens
Public Relations Officer

At the Morson WI meeting, Sept. 16, the 2004 WI quilt was won by Missy Hartnell. Patsy Moen offered to deliver the quit to Missy.
The 15 members in attendance at Buena Vista Lodge were pleased to hear the financial report. The Bass tournament food booth made almost as much money as last year, despite the cold weather.
Kristine Carpenter gave a report of the Area Convention Committee. Laurie Pentney brought a sample from our new 2005 WI quilt to be raffled next year. Bev Brodie gave a brief talk about the new chapter of the Red Hat Society in Morson. We also celebrated with a cake and sang Happy Birthday for Betty Bartlett’s 80th birthday.
Barb Zebleckis is to represent the WI in a meeting with Ken Boshcoff, MP, regarding a cell phone tower for our area.
Several members will attend the ROSE program at the Emo Museum on September 23. ROSE stands for Rural Ontario Sharing Education.
Next year is the 50th anniversary of the Morson WI. Suggestions for a banner are to be brought to the next meeting, Oct 21st, 12:30 p.m at Buena Vista resort. A “fun” auction will be held at that time, organized by Barb Zebleckis. Each member is asked to bring a wrapped item. The “Fun” is trying to guess what is under the wraps the surprise comes when it is revealed to the successful bidder!
Kristine Carpenter, JoAnne Moen, Patsy Moen, Katie Pentney, Carol Peterson and Carol Pratt attended the WI area convention at the Bergland Hall, September 20 and 21. Rosemary Laevens attended one of the afternoon sessions also.
On Monday afternoon, Laurie Pentney gave a presentation about lighthouses on Lake of the Woods, using pictures and a display. Later, she conducted a tour of the Tomahawk Island Lighthouse, which is on their property now after having been moved from Tomahawk Island in the mid 1960’s. She believes that this is the only one of the original lighthouses on the lake that is maintained and used as a museum.
The WI members who attended the NW Ontario Area Convention enjoyed the meetings and presentations.
