Hunters given the chance to take almost 4,700 more deer
Ken Johnston
Deer hunters have been fairly quick to snap up extra hunting opportunities this fall.
In an effort to reduce the exploding deer population across this region, the Ministry of Natural Resources announced earlier this summer that it would be offering hunters the opportunity to take more than one deer and possibly as many as six this season.
In August the additional tags were offered up via MNR’s Interactive Voice Recognition (phone) system. Not all the tags went so the balance of the quotas allocated were put on sale at MNR regional offices.
As of Tuesday, only about 18% of the extra tags were left for hunters to acquire. The break down by Wildlife Management Unit is as follows:
W.M.U. 7A: Additional tag quota 200. Tags left 185.
W.M.U. 7B: Additional tag quota 1,600. Tags left 367.
W.M.U. 9A: Additional tag quota 250. Tags left 49.
W.M.U. 9B: Additional tag quota 450. Tags left 39.
W.M.U. 10: Additional tag quota 1,600. Tags left 173.
W.M.U. 11A: Additional tag quota 300. Tags left 3.
W.M.U. 12A: Additional tag quota 50. Tags left 27.
W.M.U. 12B: Additional tag quota 200. Tags left 5.
