What a coffee Break!

It was perhaps the best coffee break the staff at the Rainy River Record have ever had!

Not only did it have more than 40 people in attendance, but it broke the all time amount raised for Alzheimer’s research.

For six years the staff at the Rainy River Record have been hosting the Alzheimer’s Coffee Break as part of a national effort to raise awareness about the disease as well as fund raise for research.

Last year the Record’s break raised $222.75. That was down from 1999 when they raised $230. Thanks to the generosity of all those who attended this year, the staff shattered the 99 record by raising $300!

The event has become popular for a number of reasons. In addition to the home made goodies the staff make for it each year and the great coffee, many people enjoy reading old copies of the Record and remembering years gone by.

That is something that people with Alzheimer’s often can not do. So the symbolism and appreciation of being able to remember comes out very boldly at the break.

This year a special atmosphere of remembering descended upon the break when former Rainy Riverite Carol (nee Gunderson) Knudson got reacquainted with Isabella McInnes of Rainy River. “She was my first 4–H teacher,” remarked Knudson who remembered Isabella helping her and the other 4–H kids make their first pizza.

The staff of the Record really appreciated the turnout and the generosity of all who attended.
