Gwendolyn Marie Sullivan Berg, 79

Gwendolyn Marie Sullivan Berg, of Chandler, Arizona, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2004. Gwendolyn was born on September 2, 1925 to Ethel and Daniel Sullivan in Shoal Lake, MB, Canada. Her family subsequently moved to Rainy River, Ontario. The daughter of the town mayor, Gwen learned early in life the “gift of gab”, one of her legacies. Her entire life, she never met a stranger, as she would strike up a conversation with anyone she encountered. Thus, it was fitting she would eventually work for the Telephone Company in Grand Forks, North Dakota, as a telephone operator, then later as a receptionist for Ecolab, in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Gwen met James Berg of Grand Forks, North Dakota and married him on October 17, 1947. They had been married fifty six years and produced two wonderful children. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend, Gwen leaves many who morn her absence; husband Jim of Chandler, Arizona; son Larry Berg and wife Vicki of Houlton, Wisconsin; daughter Laura Rapp and her husband Joe, and three grandchildren, Camden, Natalie, and James, all of Austin, Texas; brother Alan and wife Eileen of Fort Frances, Ontario, Canada, and many other wonderful relatives and friends. Gwen also leaves behind her loving cat, Pokey, who was at her side throughout her many years of illness.
Gwen and Jim loved life and loved new adventures. They lived many places around the country; Grand Forks, North Dakota; Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania; Lake Charles, Louisiana; Columbus, Ohio; Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Stillwater, Minnesota. Once she and husband Jim retired, they traveled for several years around the country in their RV, eventually settling in Arizona, but remaining in close contact with their many friends they had made around the country.
Gwen battled a host of illnesses over much of the last 14 years, but pressed on valiantly in spite of pain and discomfort. Before becoming ill, Gwen wa s a true nature lover, caring for whatever creature headed her direction. She was a bird watcher, an excellent cook, an avid reader, and a passionate Mexican Train player, she also loved to swim, fish and socialize with her many friends and relatives. A memorial service to celebrate Gwen’s life was held on October 6, 2004 at 9:30 a.m at Sun Lakes Chapel at 9240 N. Sun Lakes Arizona, USA.
