Prizes will include: gate passes, food, pop, autographed t-shirts and hockey sticks, a one night stay at the Americinn, and 1 night stay at Lyon’s (ice fishing) Sleepers. After the game the public is invited to lace-up their skates and join the Lady Bears on the ice for open skating. The public is also invited upstairs for bars and coffee following the game. Another promotion the girl’s hockey team is sponsoring is during all regular season home games you can win a free ice cream cone. If the girl’s high school team wins their home game the fans will receive a coupon good for a free small ice cream cone at the Northlake Café. Please come out and support the Lake of the Woods/Rainy River/Indus Girls Hockey Team.

Legion donates again
The Royal Canadian Legion has come through once again in support of girls’ hockey at Lake of the Woods/Rainy River/Indus. Last week, Gerald Marchuk presented Coach Mike Mosher and several of his players with a check for $6,000.00.
“I am extremely grateful”, said Coach Mosher. “Basically, without the Legion donation, our team has no funding for practices. Both Tim (Lyon) and I are happy that the Legion recognizes the importance of the continued involvement with the Canadian girls, and that they know they are getting a good return on their investment”. Mosher continued by saying that the Royal Canadian Legions’ donation makes it possible to not to have to continually go to the parents for additional funding.
This year’s varsity team is comprised of 15 girls; 13 American, and 2 Canadian. However, Canadian enrollment at the youth level is substantial, with 6 girls on the 14U team, 1 girl on the 12U team, and at least 8 girls on the 10U team.
The LOW/RR/Indus varsity team opens their season on Saturday, Nov 13 @ Crookston. Their first home game is at 7:00 pm at the Baudette arena on Friday, Nov 19th against Thief River Falls. Their first game at the Rainy River Recreation Centre is against Fort Frances at 7:30 pm on Monday, Nov 22nd.
