2005 to be the year of the veteran
News Release
War Amps
In response to the federal government’s declaration of 2005 as the Year of the Veteran, The War Amps is planning to be ‘first off the mark’ with a music video now under production.
Running one hour, it will feature the songwriters who have contributed their talents to produce music to accompany The War Amps World War II military heritage documentaries, which have won many international awards.
Songwriters and musicians featured include John McDermott, Wendy West and Barry Campbell, as well as Robin Moir and Joe Turner, who wrote and sang The War Amps NEVER AGAIN! theme song. Also included is Are You Really There?, written by George Blackburn, well-known throughout Canada for his three best-selling books about his wartime experiences. The song was written In England while he was overwhelmed with nostalgia thinking about his beautiful wife, Grace, at home.
“The government’s edict in establishing 2005 as the Year of the Veteran provides an opportunity - maybe the last one - to harness all our forces and add to the long-established military heritage of the country,” said War Amps Chief Executive Officer Cliff Chadderton, who produced and narrated the music video.
He notes that The War Amps, which began by providing employment for World War I veterans and whose mandate will continue for many years under Operation Legacy, which teaches youth about war, have played an integral part in both of the last two major wars and in Korea, coming home with visible reminders of the cost of battle.
The War Amps will distribute this production, free of charge, to regular, specialty and community channels in early January as a tribute to those who paid the supreme sacrifice, and to their loved ones back home. Like all War Amps productions, it is funded by corporate donations.
