Local bus service may be cut
Ken Johnston
Grey Goose/Hound is proposing cutting several runs in Northwestern Ontario.
Greyhound Canada is proposing service to once per day for Steinbach, Ste. Anne, Piney, Sprague five days per week in both directions on trips 051 and 052 to Fort Frances. If that goes through the afternoon buses going east and west would be eliminated. The company is proposing these changes to be effective March 1st.
The public has a chance to intervene in these changes by filing an intervention with the company by next Monday, Jan. 17, 2005. They can mail their name, a concise statement as to how they would be affected by the proposed time change, including evidence pertaining to the intervenor’s present use of the bus service. The address is Secretary of the Motor Transport Board, 200-301 Weston St., Winnipeg, MB, R3E 3H4. People may also fax their concerns in at (204) 783-6529.
Nault is urging people to write in and tell the company how it will affect them. “Many seniors depend on the buses for (transportation to) doctor’s appointments.” He does not feel the decision is carved in stone, “But we need people to write in.”
