Town to raise money for tsunami victims

Glen Armstrong
Mayor
Town of Rainy River

Dear Citizens:
We, the Town of Rainy River, are putting forward a fundraising campaign in conjunction with the Canadian Red Cross Society to provide relief aid to the disaster stricken South Asia.
We are asking local businesses to display collection boxes in their establishments and to record the names and mailing addresses of those that would like to receive a charitable receipt for their donations. These names will be given to the local chapter of the Canadian Red Cross Society in Dryden, Ontario. They in turn, will be issuing a charitable tax receipt for income tax purposes.
We are further asking individuals if they would like to make a contribution - this can be done at our local CIBC Branch.
As well we will be going door-to-door to reach the people who may not be able to get out to contribute to the collection boxes.
A copy of this letter is being sent to our community churches to be read to their congregations so as to reach as many people as possible.
It is our hope that our community will respond positively towards this cause.
On behalf of the members of council and our community I extend to you our heartfelt thanks for your consideration towards this worthy endeavor.
