No winter carnival in RR

Ken Johnston

For the first time in years there will be no Rainy River Lions Winter Carnival this March.
Due to a lack of volunteers to help them, the local Lions club has decided not to run a winter carnival this year. Lion John Trenchard said that they may try to have a fishing derby for the kids at a later date, but just could not get enough people to help them run the annual event this year.
The carnival usually features a carnival queen contest, kids games, outdoor activities like smoosh races, indoor activities ranging from hockey to Lion races. The one day event usually takes place the first weekend in March and usually coincides with the Rainy River Figure Skating shows.
The Figure Skating shows will still run, but unless something changes in a hurry there will be no winter carnival in 2005.
