Atikokan woman fined for poaching deer
News Release
Ministry of Natural Resources
An Atikokan woman has been fined $1,000 after pleading guilty to failing to tag a deer.
Elaine Larocque, 52, has also been banned from hunting for a year. The deer has been forfeited to the Crown.
Court heard that Larocque shot a deer last November 1, but kept her game seal so that she could carry on hunting. Her deception was uncovered by Ministry of Natural Resources conservation officers from Fort Frances.
Justice of the Peace Pat Clysdale-Cornell heard the case in the Ontario Court of Justice, Rainy River on January 13, 2005.
The public is asked to protect its natural resources by reporting violations to the local ministry office or by anonymously calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
