Dorothy Hildreth Race (Pentney)

Dorothy Hildreth Race passed away on Oct. 8/01 in the Kenora General Hospital.

Dorothy was born on Aug. 4, 1911 in Manitou Minnesota, USA the third child of Lily Anna and Ernest Pentney. She was predeceased by her husband K.O. "Bones" Race, son Dally, infant granddaughters Mary Ellen Jamieson and Baby Race, grandson Dallas Sweeney and by sisters Edie and Elsie and brothers Ernest, Don and Gordon.

Dorothy is survived by daughters Merle (Allan) Jamieson of Redditt, Heather (Bill) Vialoux of Kakabeka Falls, Doris (Wilf) Sweeney of Castlegar B.C.; sons David Race of Kenora and Ken (Lenore) Race of Redditt; brothers Richard Pentney of Oliver B.C. and David Pentney of Thunder Bay, ON; granddaughters Angela and Marylin; grandsons Pat, Jon, Lyle and Michael; great granddaughters Nicole, Maggie, Helen, Katelynn and Brianna and great grandsons Dylan and Kyle.

Grandma "Bones" as she was known to grandchildren, honourary grandchildren and great grandchildren moved to Redditt in 1939. Dorothy peeled the logs that Mr. "Bones" towed down the lake to build our house in 1940. In later years she found time to enjoy some favourite things such as her flowers, the loons on the lake a thoroughly whipping somebody at scrabble. Grandma also made many friends of the guests who stayed in the cabins over the years and her Christmas letters were welcomed by all. She will be sorely missed.

The family wishes to express thanks to the staff of the Birchwood Terrace nursing home and the nursing staff of 3 east at the Lake of the Woods District hospital for the excellent care and compassion shown to Dorothy.

At Mom's request cremation has taken place and a family service will be held at a later date.
