Thanks for remembering

Doug Anderson

Dear Editor,
I want to congratulate you on printing the stories of the heroes of WWI in your paper. I agree, these people should not be forgotten. I heard about the school project on CBC radio last fall. My great uncle is Eddie J Anderson. I think he is the person who appeared in your last issue, but there are some contradictions. My uncle was born in Pelican Rapids, MN at about the time listed in your story. (Similar to Pelican, MN) I have a postcard where his return address is the 94th Battalion. We know he died from disease when the fighting was about over. His mother was Mrs. Eric W. Anderson (Louisa) who lived in Rainy River until her death in 1940. His brother was my grandfather, Carl Hjalmar Anderson (he went by his middle name). He worked on the railroad and lived in Rainy River until he transferred to Fort Frances in the 1940’s, where he retired in 1957. There are probably some old timers around Rainy River who still remember Hjalmar Anderson.
I will do some more research on my great uncle and get back to you. I know I have a picture of his grave in France. If you could, would you pass this on to the student who did the research. I would be interested in his sources.
–Thank you for your help,
Doug Anderson
