Baudette numbers go unlisted
Ken Johnston
Don’t throw out your old phone book if you want to be able to look up a number from Baudette.
Bell Canada has decided to try and pinch some pennies and cut the pages out of its new directory.
A customer service representative at Bell, who would not release her name, said that the decision was made to save money. “It was a service we offered and are no longer going to offer.”
Another side of the coin is now there is a charge for using directory service any time. So a person can not call and ask for a local number, even if it is new, without being charged.
Local calls between Baudette, MN. and Rainy River, Ont. have been toll free forever. When the local phone companies sold out to Bell they signed a deal about 50 years ago with the bigger companies to provide phone service free between the two towns “Forever and a day.”
If you have thrown out your old phone book you can look up phone numbers free of charge for Baudette at whitepages.com.
