Catch the action at Morson Fish Derby

Ken Johnston

It promises to be a great catch!
The 8th Annual Live Release Morson Ice Fishing Derby will be held this Saturday.
The event gets underway at 7 a.m. with a pancake breakfast at the Morson Hall.
Anglers will then head onto Lake of the Woods via the government dock where roads will be plowed to the bay in front of Mylie’s Resort.
There is a $10 entry fee for the derby and cash prizes will be awarded for the largest Walleye, Northern Pike and the most Perch caught. There will also be a mystery weight. An added bonus this year will see everyone get a ticket for every fish caught. The tickets could win them a prize.
Fishing will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. after which awards will be handed out at the Morson Hall around 6 p.m.
A roast pork dinner with all the trimmings will also be served that evening starting at 6 p.m.
For those who do not want to fish there will be a cribbage tournament at 1 p.m. at the Morson Hall. There is a $5 entry fee and $2 for high hand.
For more information on the derby call Sheila Gate at 488-5733. All are welcome to come out and fish and have fun! Minnows will be available.
