Shantelle Davidson tries out for Canadian Idol

Ken Johnston

Is Shantelle Davidson of Rainy River destined for stardom?
On February 20th she travelled to Saskatoon, Sask. to audition for Canadian Idol. The 17 year old singer has been singing just about as early as she could walk. She has done well at many local talent contests and took it to a much higher level last week in Saskatoon.
She made it through the first round where 450 people were competing against her. Singing Hero by Mariah Carey and Breakaway by Kelly Clarkson, she made it to Tier 1. The judges got even tougher there, but gave her a great deal of encouragement. “They said I have all the stuff to become a singer and that I should come back next year when my voice matures more.”
If she had made it past that round she would have gone to Tier 2 and been in front of celebrity judges. She said it was a great experience and hopes to tryout again next year.
