Fort and Emo win RR Men’s Hockey Tourney

Men’s hockey season came to a close Sunday at the Rainy River arena with Rainy River’s Packy Yeo team losing in the A final against Fort Frances.
It was scoreless until the midway point of the first period. Fort scored at the 8:15 mark and later added to it with 17 seconds left in the period to lead 2-0 after one. Fort outshot Rainy River 8-3.
In the second both teams played tight defense and had great goal tending. Not goals were scored and Fort outshot RR 9-6.
In the third no one scored until the 7:30 mark when Fort scored. Rainy tried hard but could not get past Fort’s goalie. With 26 seconds left Fort added an insurance goal and won the tournament 4-0. They outshot RR 10-7 in the third.
In the B event it was Big Island against Emo. Emo scored early (1:15) on against the very tired Big Island team who had to play two games back to back. They then added two more at 3:59 and 6:11 to lead 3-0. But Big Island was not going down without a fight. They scored with 22 seconds left in the period. Emo outshot Big Island 10-9.
In the second Big Island scored the only goal to close the lead 3-2. The goal was a result of a shot off the post and then the rebound was picked up and netted. Emo outshot Big Island 9-6.
Less than four minutes into the third Big Island tied the game up at 3-3. For about five minutes the two teams battled back and forth until Emo scored at the 9:52 mark. They then added some insurance at 13:50 to lead 5-3. With their goalie pulled and the extra attacker on, Big Island fought hard but gave up an empty netter. Emo won 6-3. Big Island outshot Emo 10-7 that period.
