Town fined $7,000 Crown withdraws three charges

The Town of Rainy River plead guilty to a charge by the Ministry of Environment last Thursday and will pay a fine of $7,000.
MoE spokesman, Mark Rabbior, said Monday that Rainy River plead guilty to one charge of “failing to maintain their required free chlorine residual.” Rabbior said the failure happened several times between May 12 and Dec. 31 of 2003.
The remaining three charges were withdrawn by the crown and MoE.
The charges were originally laid last October following an inspection of the Rainy River Water Treatment Plant.
A subsequent inspection last month yielded no serious infractions. MoE said that there were a few minor administrative issues and that it is likely that “No enforcement action will take place.”
