Bergland Lutheran church gets a makeover

Trinity Lutheran Church (Bergland) was officially organized on Oct. 2, 1933 with the Augustana Conference.
The ground work for the church had begun several years earlier when the Ladies Aid purchased land in 1924 and had the old log school house moved on to it to be used for church services and a meeting place for other church related functions.
Trinity was served by many pastors, student pastors, parish workers, Sunday School teachers and organists over the year.
The congregation was very active as it ministered in the community and over time the old log building began to deteriorate.
In 1961, under the pastoral leadership of Rev. Vernon Sundmark and Building Supervisor Oscar Stenberg, a new church building was built. The new church was dedicated to the work of our Lord on December 24, 1961.
Over the years Trinity Lutheran Church has continued God’s ministry in the Bergland community and communities beyond. The building has been maintained with love and care. But the building is now 43 years old and the congregation decided some changes were necessary.
In Aug. 2004, a new addition was built on to the east end of the building. The congregation at Trinity is very pleased with the new kitchen area, bathroom, Sunday School room and storage room.
Once completed, it was a unanimous vote that the original part of the facility receive a much needed remodeling. The remodeling is currently under way and it is our wish to have Easter Sunday service in a completely remodeled church.
On Sun. Feb 6th, Bishop Richard Smith, Bishop of Manitoba, NWO Evangelical Lutheran Church of Canada presided during worship. Following service Bishop Smith dedicated and blessed our church’s new addition. It was a day of blessed celebration.
In 2008 Trinity will celebrate 75 years of ministry in Bergland & Rainy River.
We will celebrate our past, present & future knowing that God’s ministry continues because of the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Our church services are at 11 a.m. each Sunday as well as an 11 a.m. Sunday School program. Everyone is welcome to attend. We would love for you to worship with us.
