By Michael Dawber
Librarian/CEO

Rainy River – Business at the Rainy River Public Library hit a 16-year high in 2012!
The numbers are in the library’s new annual report, which has just been released.
In 2012, the library loaned 15,294 items. This is 18% more than in 2011 and the highest annual total since 1996.
The most-used category was adult fiction at 5,921.
DVDs followed this at 3,602. Children’s fiction came in at 1,611.
As usual, our busiest months were in the summer.
We loaned 1,752 items in July and 1,603 in August.
In other numbers, your library registered 88 new members and added
2,087 new items to the library collection.
We provided free internet access to 1,754 users, and held 46 free computer training sessions.
We logged 5,017 visits to our website, and loaned 1,055 audiobooks and ebooks by internet download.
Once again, use of our download service doubled over the previous year.
This is the third year in a row that’s happened.
We held 30 library programs attended by 279 adults and children.
We were especially grateful for the 227 hours of volunteer assistance we had in 2012.
Without the help of many hands, we could not have finished our $15,000 shelving renovation funded by the Trillium Foundation.
The Library Board would like to thank the community for making last year such a success!
Free copies of the 2012 annual report are now available at the library.
