RRHS has a busy spring planned
Bob McGreevy
RRHS Principal
(NOTE: This is the first in a series of articles designed to provide our communities with information about events at Rainy River High School.)
Despite the fact that there is still snow on the ground, plans for Grad 2005 are well underway. Members of the Class of ’05 will be holding their annual fund raising Tea and Bake Sale on Saturday, April 2nd at the Legion. All are welcome.
Last year, the Class of ’04 held a Chem-Free Grad celebration at the Recreation Centre after graduation ceremonies at the school. This event was widely supported within the community and was very successful. The Class of ’05 plans to make this year’s event even bigger and better than last year’s. There will be an organizational meeting for parents and students on Tuesday, March 29th at 7:00 p.m. in room two. Parents and grads are encouraged to attend the meeting to put forward and discuss ideas that will ensure the success of this year’s event.
On March 29th, grade seven and eight students from area schools will be participating in an interactive anti-bullying dramatic presentation that has been developed and presented by drama students from both RRHS and Fort Frances High School. Additional performances will take place on March 30th at FFHS. Thanks to Laura Armistead and Willa Kunkel for their work with students on this very worthwhile project.
The next RRHS School Council meeting will take place on Monday, April 4th at 7:00 p.m. in room two. Parents are always welcome.
One of the activities that the School Council has undertaken is the development of a “Parents’ Guide to Rainy River High School.” In order for this publication to be valuable to parents, the Council is seeking feedback about what information would be most useful for parents. You may already have been contacted through e-mail or by phone to solicit your input. You are encouraged to take a few minutes and let us know what information you feel would be most useful in our Parents’ Guide.
In co-curricular activities, our badminton teams under Coach Don Gall are hard at work preparing for the upcoming season. The first competition will take place in Fort Frances on April 5th. Track and field practices are underway with our sports co-operative with Lake of the Woods School. The season opening event will take place indoors in Bemidji on March 29th.
Drama rehearsals for our upcoming production “Journey to the East” have begun. Mark your calendar for a performance from May 25th to 27th.
A reminder to parents that Wednesday, April 6th is an early dismissal day. Classes will be dismissed at 1:45 p.m. so that staff can be involved in professional development activities.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the school at 852-3284.
