Eugene Francis Lacroix, 77
Eugene Francis Lacroix of Dawson Township passed away suddenly at the Rainy River Hospital on Monday, April 4, 2005.
At the age of 15 Eugene moved to Moonbeam, Ontario. He later moved to Kapuskasing where he was the owner/operator of a Volkswagen Dealership. He operated the business for 25 years. In 1986 he moved back to Rainy River and had lived there since.
He was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, the Knights of Columbus and was on the Board of the McInnis Creek Chapel. He was very community oriented and helped out with many functions throughout the area. He was a friend to everyone and would lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, barbecuing and attending pancake breakfasts. Most of all, his family was very important to him.
Eugene was united in marriage on January 31, 1948 to the former Fabiola Charpentier who survives along with their six children; Florence (Tony) Godin of Sarnia, ON; Genine Robichaud of Kapuskasing, ON; Louise (Ron) Trottier of Osoyoos, BC; Diane (Mike) McCord of Sault Ste, Marie, ON; Eugene Lacroix Jr. and Ronald Lacroix, both of London, ON. Also surviving are 10
grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 7 siblings, Clara (Fred) Fleming, Lorraine (Bill) Lawrence, Alice (Bill) Laird, Rena (Wayne) McCallum, Alphonse Lacroix, Jeanette Bendell and Lenore, Lacroix as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sister Anna Louise Lacroix in infancy, his parents Eugene Lacroix Sr. and Theresa (Crawford) Lacroix and brother Gordon Lacroix.
A funeral mass was held on Friday, April 8, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Rainy River, Ontario. Father Dan Debano officiated with interment in the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Rainy River.
Friends visited with the family on Thursday, April 7, 2005 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church. Vigil prayers were held at 7:30 p.m.
The pallbearers were members of the Knights of Columbus, Steve Yeryk, Walter Swerbus, Ron O’Connor, Don Jarvis, Don Marquis and Alphonse Langlais.
