Response to new soccer league overwhelming

Soccer fever has hit Rainy River!
So far 85 kids ages 5-12 have signed up in Rainy River for a newly formed youth soccer league.
“We have kids from the entire area,” said RR Rec. Director Monique Gall. They are still accepting registrations until this Friday, Apr. 22.
Kids will be broken up into the following age groups: 5-7, 8-9 and 10-12. It will begin May 3rd and will run every Tues. and Thurs. evenings until June 23rd. Each group will get one hour skills development and then a half hour of scrimmage. “We are holding it the same time as Fort Frances and Emo youth soccer leagues in hopes of playing some exhibition games with them,” said Gall.
She said Rebecca Tolen deserves the credit for getting it going. “She came here from Fort where youth soccer is really big. She spearheaded it, getting the word out at the schools.”
Kids are welcome from both sides of the border and registration is $15 which will get each kid s t-shirt and a pizza party at the end of the league.
Anyone interested in signing up can do so at the Rainy River Rec. Centre or by calling Monique at 852-4446.
