18th Railroad Daze to be a week later

Despite rumours to the contrary, there will be a Rainy River Railroad Daze Festival this summer.
With the centennial celebrations virtually derailing the event last year, organizers were discouraged to say the least last year with participation in RR Daze. However, after discussions at a recent Recreation Board meeting the board decided to press ahead with the 18th annual Railroad Daze.
Rec. Director Monique Gall said the only catch this year is that the event will be a week later than normal. It used to be held on the third weekend in July, however the arena was booked for another event that weekend and hence the board decided to hold it July 22-24, 2005.
“We will be hosting a ball tournament and the Saturday evening dance,” said Gall. Entries for the mixed slowpitch tourney are now being taken (call 852-4446). She said the board is also working on getting inflatables for kids to have fun on. All other events will be left up to groups in the community to generate.
Someone is needed to coordinate a parade and any groups that have an event they want to hold can call Monique. In the past there have been three full days of activities such as the seniors’ picnic and concert at the station, flower/art show, sidewalk sales, canoe/beaver boat races, minnow races, concessions, steak/fish fries, monster bingo, skipping contests, petting zoo, old car shows, etc. Anyone or group wanting to host an event to call Monique so that promotion of the event as a whole can be coordinated as one.
