Record wins award

Ken Johnston

After making dramatic changes to the layout and content of the Rainy River Record last year, it appears the efforts have paid off.
On Friday the Record received word that it has received a Blue Ribbon for General Excellence in its circulation class.
This award is based on the total newspaper and recognized outstanding overall achievement in the community press. The competition is hosted by the Canadian Community Newspaper Association (CCNA) and uses broad criteria in editorial, advertising and typography.
CCNA chose two weeks at random from 2004 that papers across the country could submit for judging. The Record entered its March 9th and Oct. 19th editions. The first featured the crowning of the carnival queen and figure skating show photos. The latter had breaking news about the car accident/gas leak that triggered the evacuation of the local hospital and several blocks of homes in Rainy River.
This is the first newspaper award the Record has won in four years and is the 21st award the paper has won since 1987.
