Les Rouge Rogues of Rainy River started the year with a bang, as red balloons popped at our 6th anniversary party. The banquet room at the Roadside Restaurant was tense as friendly competitors Lady La Tea Da (Dawn Jarvis) and Lady Annabelle, Woman of Note ( Anne Mailloux) competed for the most hearts play down. Dawn made quick work of getting Anne to use the word ‘I”, thus receiving the biggest prize, The Red Hat Society book by Sue Ellen Cooper herself.
A “High Tea” in the home of Lady Linda of La-Di-Da (Budreau) was the highlight for Feb. Everyone attending brought Valentines, chocolates and little red hat gifts for an exchange. The home was adorned with colourful teddies & snow people, purple & red pearls and grapes, and all sorts of decorative finery. Vicki Atkin catered the delicious lunch and decadent desserts.
The red hat ladies who are members of the Hospital Auxiliary served up food with smiles at the Senior’s Depot in Feb. also. The seniors enjoyed hand made party favours, strawberry shortcake, and delightful music with Lady Carolina Rose (Kreger) on the keyboard accompanied with red hatted singers & kazoos.
Debbie Armstrong decorated abundantly with tulle & lights, the Knox Church lower level for the “Puttin on the Ritz” festivity in March. The Rogues arrived in all their finest regalia, decked with crowns, glitz & glam, furs & boas, intent on having fun. Patti Diebel created the chocolate red hat desserts filled with creamy pudding, an original creation, which were enjoyed following a delicious dinner.
Countess Shutterbug (Lu) & the Count Ricci (Don) put out quite a spread of food for the Rogues first Pyjama Party in April. The Rogues were entertained with the movie “Calendar Girls”, and created their own crystal hat pins with materials provided by Lady Linda of La Di Da. Lu’s cherry cupcakes & brownies finished off the fun evening.
Apr. 25th was International Red Hat Day. The Northern Loons of Baudette hosted a full day of activities from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. complete with cake, accordion player & dancing, and many fun decorating competitions. Prizes were won by Queen La Dame Douglas Diva (Susan) & Duchess of Dollies (Jesse Bodnarchuk).
May 14th cars carrying 14 Les Rouge Rogues travelled to the Rendezvous in Fort Frances, joining another 270 red hat women for the 2nd annual „Hats Across the Border‰. Our very own Lady Glitter (Brigitta McGreevy) was featured in this months Society magazine, Lifestyles. The ladies were entertained with bagpipes, highland dancers, a symphony group, skits and songs following a wonderful lunch. Over 50 draws for prizes were made with many of our members bringing home lovely new red hats. Lady Snowbird (Ruth Holt) won the Crazy hat contest with her delightful birthday cake hat.
Monday May 30th, our ladies met at the Covenant church, 4 p.m. for the first ever Les Rouge Rogues Road Rally.
