Boshcoff announces funding for

News Release
Ken Boshcoff, M.P.

Ken Boshcoff M.P. Thunder Bay-Rainy River is pleased that the Ontario agreement under the New Deal for Communities has been signed. As part of that deal, Rainy River will receive $19,128.88 this year growing to $63,751.53 in 2009-10 for a total of $159,387.37 over five years.
Boshcoff says, “I’m so pleased that Rainy River will receive such significant funds through the New Deal. This investment will allow the township to invest in important projects that will improve quality of life for our citizens.”
Gas tax funding will also be provided to the communities of Thunder Bay, Fort Frances, Alberton, Atikokan, Chapple, Emo, La Vallee, Morley, Dawson, and Lake of the Woods.
Gas tax funding will go to environmentally sustainable municipal infrastructure, like transit or water and wastewater systems - and will promote improvements to our environment, such as cleaner air and water and reduced greenhouse gases. These investments will help Canada meets its Kyoto commitment. The agreement also provides a framework for work on other elements of the New Deal, including how municipal governments can participate in discussions on national issues most important to municipalities. These annual funds will continue in perpetuity to provide long-term, stable financing for Ontario’s communities.
