(Fort Frances, Ontario) The Atikokan Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police is asking the public for help in solving a mischief. Sometime between 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. on June 10th, culprits vandalized several boat trailers that were parked at Turtle Lake Landing located approximately 0.5 kilometers east of Highway 622 on Turtle Lake. Anyone with information regarding this crime is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
OPP in Rainy River are asking for public assistance in locating the owner of a missing boat. On May 21st, a 14-foot aluminum boat drifted onto the shore of a residence in Barwick. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
On June 18th, 2005 at approximately 4:45 p.m. the Rainy River OPP received information regarding a possible impaired driver. Police located the vehicle on Atwood Avenue in Rainy River, the vehicle was stopped and the driver was subsequently arrested for Drive Over 80mgs. Kirk Wood, age 34 of Rainy River, was arrested and charged with Driving a Motor Vehicle Over 80mgs. He was released from custody and will appear in Rainy River court on July 7th, 2005.
There were a number of vehicle and deer collisions over the weekend on our area highways.
The OPP would like to remind motorists to be alert when traveling on rural roadways and be conscious of the wildlife in the area. Likewise, adhering to the posted speed limits should provide drivers with the suitable reaction time necessary to safely avoid a collision with an animal that wanders onto the highway.
The Rainy River OPP is seeking the public’s assistance in regards to a Break and Enter to property located at the end of Fishery Rd in Spohn Twp. Between May 23rd and June 14th unknown suspects entered a recreational vehicle parked on the property and stole assorted fishing supplies and electronic equipment, as well as damaging the vehicle, boats and motors on the property.
