Canada Day has been revitalized in Rainy River this year.
On June 30th the Rainy River Recreation Board and Fire Dept. will be hosting a street dance at Hannam Park (at the Rec. Centre if it rains).
That will be open to ages 16 and up and will run from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. and will feature live band The Faculty.
Friday, July 1st, Canada Day will will jam packed with fun for all ages.
Starting early in the morning there will be a pancake breakfast at the park from 8-10:30 a.m.
At 11 a.m. there will be a parade starting on 6th St. and running down towards the river and then up Main St. Prizes for the floats will be awarded by the Chamber of Commerce. Those with floats are asked to begin lining up around 10:30 a.m. on the old highway.
After lunch the park will be bustling with activities. A dunk tank will open at 1 p.m. featuring local celebrities. A pig roast will also begin at 2 p.m. These events will be hosted by the RR Rec.Bd. and Fire Dept.
A mini putt will be open at 1 p.m. and will be hosted by the Covenant Church.
Face painting and kids games will begin at 1 p.m. and are sponsored by CIBC.
The return of the Kenducky Derby will take place at 4 p.m. and is being hosted by the RR Charitable Assoc.
The Fireman’s Olympic challenge will be held at 5 p.m.
The first annual Rainy River Bucks Auction will take place for at least $750 in merchandise and services. Tens of thousands of RR Bucks have been circulated so dig them out and come and try to buy something nice with them.
At 10 p.m. the day will end with a spectacular fireworks display at the park.
Everyone is welcome to come and celebrate Canada’s 138th birthday.
