On Wednesday and Thursday, October 24 and 25, the Rainy River High School sports teams packed their bags and headed for Red Lake and Kenora. Sadly, Mother Nature was not co-operative, and the weather turned bad shortly after the bus left the school. By the time the teams reached Vermilion Bay, it was apparent that road conditions were unsafe, and the bus headed back to Kenora, where the teams spent the night. At this point, the Red Lake games have not been re-scheduled.

On Thursday morning, the Owls faced very strong teams from St. Thomas Aquinas High School. Our junior boys volleyball team is currently in second place, behind the Saints. The Owls got off to a slow start, with game scores of 25:12 and 25:22 for T.A., followed by 25:14 for Rainy. In the fourth game, T.A. prevailed with a score of 25:7, to win three games to one.

In senior boys volleyball action, a very powerful T.A. team won in three straight with scores of 25:12, 25:11, and 25:16.

In girls basketball play, the junior Owls went down with a score of 52 to 18; while the senior girls battled hard, but finished on the wrong end of a 44 to 21 final score.

Next action for the Owls is Tuesday, October 30th when they host Pelican Falls in volleyball action. Games begin at 12:30 p.m. with Junior boys action. All fans are welcome.

On Thursday and Friday, November 1st and 2nd, the Rainy teams will be traveling to Ignace and Sioux Lookout on the second overnight trip of the season. The Owls will round out the regular season with a trip to Atikokan on Tuesday, November 6th. Playoffs will take place in Kenora on November 8th and 9th.
