Bertha Mae Viola Murray (nee Douglas), 87
Bertha lived her whole life in Rainy River and died in the Rainy River Health Centre Long Term Care Facility on July 13, 2005 in her 87th year.
Members of her family from southern Ontario and Calgary had been visiting and are grateful they had the chance to be with her just days before she succumbed to pneumonia.
Bertha is survived by her son Douglas and his wife Zora (Calgary); her son Colin and his wife Janine (Napanee) and their children Andrew Logan and Ashleigh Anne; and her son William and his wife Dale (Cayuga) and their children Julie Anne, Aaron, Bethany and Sean, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Charles Ralph (Jimmy) Murray in 1975 and by her brothers Colin, Arthur and Donald Douglas.
Bertha was a long-time member of the Eastern Star, Rebecca Lodge, and the Knox United Church. She worked for a number of years at Aikenhead's
Grocery store until retirement. Despite having her family living many miles away, Bertha was a much-cherished grandmother whose grandchildren always looked forward to visiting her in Rainy River each summer.
Everyone enjoys fond memories of those visits.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Health Centre for their wonderful care of Bertha, especially Joan Aikenhead, and volunteer
Snookie Marchuk, Bertha's former neighbour. A special thank you to Mark and Susan Douglas for all their thoughtfulness and frequent visits.
Bertha's ashes will be interred at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Rainy River with her beloved husband. A memorial service in celebration of Bertha's life will be conducted in the summer of 2006 when distant family can all be present.
