Are you spending the Family Day holiday at home with no idea what you are going to do for fun?
Well look no further than your local Recreation Facilities!
Rec. Director Kam Kuzyk and Best Start Hub Coordinator Nicole Blakeney have organized a Family Fun Day beginning at 10 a.m. on Monday!
Back again this year is a Family Photo Scavenger Hunt that was inhibited by bad weather last year. “We are hoping it will be better this year if the weather cooperates,” said Kuzyk. It involves families getting a list of photos they must take doing different tasks/activities around town in a two hour time frame.
Participants then bring their photos back to the RR Rec. Centre and receive points for completing the hunt or portions thereof. “Top prize is a $25 gift certificate for the Roadside Restaurant!” said Kuzyk.
At Noon several activities get underway. Volunteers at the Rainy River Curling Club will play host to families wishing to come out and curl for fun! There are several 30 minute time slots available... so to be sure you get one, call 852-4446 and sigh up ahead of time. There is no charge.
Also at Noon will be snowshoeing and cross country skiing. Kuzyk said they have lots of snowshoes and a few pairs of skis. So those who have their own skis are asked to bring them.
If indoors is where you like to be, the Best Start Hub will be hosting craft time inside the Rec. Centre.
After working up an appetite doing one or more activities there will be free hotdogs and hot chocolate provided. They are sponsored by Northern Lights Credit Union.
At 2 p.m. a new event has been added to Family Day. It is called “Amazing Race-Family Edition!”
Like the t.v. show, family teams will compete in challenged in and around the Rec. Centre. Teams need to be a minimum of one adult and one child. All the challenges are two person. There is a prize for this competition. It is another $25 gift certificate from the Roadside Restaurant.
Things will wrap up at 3:45 p.m. with an hour of free skating, sponsored by the RR Legion. Other event sponsors making the day fun and entirely free of charge include NLCU, The Roadside, Best Start Hub, RR Rec. Board, RR Curling Club and the Town of Rainy River.
