Stratton company gets $4.6 million bridge contract

Ontario is creating 46 new jobs while improving infrastructure on Highway 11 east of Fort Frances.
The Seven Mile Bridge, 18 kilometres west of the Highway 502 junction, is being replaced to improve travel and safety for families and businesses while strengthening tourism and the economy in the north.
Investing in road and highway infrastructure is part of the government’s economic plan that is creating jobs for today and tomorrow. The comprehensive plan and its six priorities focus on Ontario’s greatest strengths -- its people and strategic partnerships. Investing in transportation infrastructure through the Northern Highways Program helps deliver on the Growth Plan for northern Ontario.
The Sharp Group, of Stratton, Ont., has been awarded the $4.6-million contract. Work will begin in spring 2014 with completion scheduled for fall 2014.
Since 2003, Ontario has rehabilitated 3,624 kilometres of highway and 212 bridges and built 524 kilometres of new highway and 121 new bridges throughout northern Ontario.
"Our government’s continued investment in the Northern Highways Program ensures that vital transportation links are expanded and improved for local residents, visitors and industries. This project will see the creation of about 46 new local jobs as we work to improve safety and provide better road conditions near Fort Frances," said Michael Gravelle, Minister of Northern Development and Mines.
