Video results in further charges
Members of the Kenora Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) investigated a collision that was reported to police on Saturday March 1, 2014 at approximately 1:30 pm. Police received a call that two vehicles had collided at the west intersection of Highway 17 and 17a west of Kenora. The investigation revealed that the eastbound vehicle had struck a northbound pickup truck that had allegedly failed to stop for the stop sign.
The driver of the northbound vehicle was treated at the scene for minor injuries and the driver and passenger of the eastbound vehicle were transported to the Lake of the Woods District Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the northbound vehicle, a 36 year old male identified as Christopher LORD from La Broquerie, Manitoba was charged with Fail to Yield to Traffic on Through Highway contrary to section 136(1)(b) of the Highway Traffic Act.
On March 4, 2014 the OPP received a video that provided further evidence in relation to this collision. As a result, on March 13, 2014 the driver was also issued a Provincial Offence Notice for Drive Motor Vehicle with Hand-held Communication Device contrary to Section 78.1(1) of the HTA.
