Lawrence Gibbins (Pugonayonquop), 70
Lawrence Gibbins, age 70, of Big Island First Nation, ON, passed away on Tuesday July 26, 2005 at the Lake Of The Woods Hospital in Kenora, ON.
He was born on May 3, 1935 in Morson, Ontario to Alexander and Katie Gibbins. He has lived in the Morson area all of his life. He worked as a carpenter, guide and trapper. He enjoyed fishing, going for walks, watching sports especially wrestling and hockey and spending time with his family.
Lawrence leaves behind his children Clarence (Lorraine Kirkrude) of Morson, John (Darlene) of Big Island First Nation, Virginia (Patrick) Handorgan of Big Island, Laura (Vernon Tuesday) Major of Big Grassy First Nation, Cheryl of Big Grassy First Nation, Larry of Big Grassy First Nation; their mother Victoria Gibbins of Big Grassy First Nation; 17 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; brother Lenny (Roberta); sisters Diane (Brian) Major, Rita Andy and Janet (Lawrence) Larson as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; grandsons Jeff Kirkrude; brothers James Gibbins, Harry Gibbins, Alex Gibbins Jr., Mike Gibbins and Clifford Gibbins.
A wake was held on Friday July 29, 2005 at 4 p.m. at the Big Grassy First Nation Hall. A traditional funeral service was held on Saturday July 30, 2005 in the morning. Elder Frank Green officiated with interment in the Morson Cemetery.
The pallbearers were Jeff Morrison, Clarence Gibbins Jr., Albert George, Jules Gibbins, Melvin Morrison and Touchan Fiddler.
