Bigger garden might help a bit

I am seriously thinking about doubling or tripling the size of my garden this spring.
I don't know about you but I have been astounded by the dramatic rise in the cost of living over the past several months.
It used to be hamburger was a cheap meal... now it commands nearly $4 per pound.
Bacon must be gold plated... it gets even more per pound than burger!
But eating is not the only thing that is costing more and more.... energy prices have steadily been going through the roof.
Gasoline has been bad for a long time... but this past winter heating costs for propane users went astronomical.
Natural gas just announced a big hike effective April 1st and anyone who has looked at their electric bills knows there is never good news in that envelope.
And water rates in Rainy River are also helping drown the common person's budget. In my case adding up to more than my property taxes in a year!
I don't know if government can do anything to help lower food and energy costs, but I think that if I grow a lot more food this summer and freeze or can it, I can at least help lower my food bill over the next year.
I know how much these increased costs have affected my personal budget... I can only imagine how someone making even less money than me is coping with it.

–Until then,
Ken
