The strong season for the RRHS Junior Boys Volleyball team continued last Tuesday at home when the Pelican Falls Timberwolves visited.
In Game 1, the two teams were evenly matched until power-server Delbert Kirkrude served up 11 straight points to put the team ahead 18-7. After that they never looked back defeating the T-wolves 25-11, thanks also in part to hard hitting by Kevin Nordberg and Matt Ashworth.
In Game 2, the score was duplicated with the Owls coming out on top again.
Matt Ashworth had another awesome game hitting the ball hard. One spike was so hard that when returned by the T-wolves it went so deep into Owl territory that it was out of bounds.
In Game 3, the two teams stayed even for just about the entire match.
However with strong blocking by Mitch Gouliquer and Blake Mykytyn, the Owls won the final game of the match 25-22.
Senior Boys
In Game 1, the senior Owls faced an evenly matched team in the T-wolves. However it was the opposite side of the coin from the juniors for the seniors. They lost the first game 22-25.
In Game 2, strong blocking by Travis Vandenbrand and Ken Guess and great rallies were not enough to give the Owls victory. They lost by the same score 22-25.
In Game 3, the Owls took the lead early after Travis Vandenbrand served 7 consecutive points early on. They held the lead by as much as 8 for most of the game. However the T-wolves rallied to come within 3 at one point. But the Owls hung on and beat them 25-20 to force another game.
Game 4 was another close one with only one point separating them at the end.
It was 23-24 when Pelican Falls regained the serve and scored one to win the match.
