Dawson volunteers deserve a public apology

Dear Editor,
I feel the need to respond in regard to “one man’s opinion” in the council report Oct. 12th “All Fired Up.”
Councillor Ed Tymkin noted that $9,000.00 per year is forked out in firefighter fees.
Surely one can see if you divide that figure by all the volunteers it doesn’t amount to very much per person.
It barely covers the gas mileage to attend the training meetings. This leaves next to nothing for the countless hours spent by these volunteers.
If I were a Dawson resident and volunteered my time to the Town of Rainy River, so that they can have fire protection, I would consider what Mr. Tymkin said to be a “slap in my face.”
I would urge these Dawson volunteers to demand a public apology or resign the Rainy River Fire Dept. and join the Dawson Volunteer Fire Dept., where they will be very much appreciated.

Signed
Deputy Fire Chief
Mark Douglas
