Town settles with Norfab

Rainy River Town Council held a special meeting last Tuesday evening to deal with a couple of items.
The main topic on the agenda was the passing of a motion to allow the Mayor and Dept. Clerk to sign an agreement reached with Norfab concerning the former Koeneman Lumber plant in Rainy River.
Last year council attempted to auction off the contents of the building. But at the last minute a court injunction was slapped on the town by Norfab. They claimed they had items in the former mill that belonged to them.
A settlement was reached and Norfab has retrieved their property. Council now plans to reignite plans to auction the remaining contents of the building off. No date for the sale has been set as of yet.
Another industry related topic was withdrawn from the agenda. Initially council was going to deal with a motion entertaining proceeding with “tax sale proceedings” of the Globecco industrial building. However, Mayor Glen Armstrong said some new information had come to light and council opted to withdraw the motion for the time being.
In other business council did some housekeeping by amending a motion to grant Clarence Advent a minor variance on his property. The original motion was reworded slightly and approved by council.
The next regular meeting of Rainy’s town council is next Monday at 7 p.m. at the town hall. All are welcome to attend.
