Hens and chicks in the garden

I am talking about a plant in this column not bird. The family of succulent plants known as Sempervivum, is the family that hens and chicks belong to. Hens and chicks are native to Europe and northern Africa but are now widely available for use as perennials in most parts of Canada. They can also be successfully grown indoors but this column will focus on outdoor planting.
