Emma Freisting, 101

Mrs. Emma Freisting, age 101, resident of Birchwood Terrace Nursing Home, Kenora, ON, passed away peacefully November 23, 2005 at Lake of the Woods District Hospital. Born on June 29, 1904 in Beaumont, ND, her family moved to Spooner, MN, and later south of Warroad, MN where she grew up. She went to work in a restaurant in Warroad, and later cooked for a sawmill crew in Pennasse, MN where she met Al Gemmeke whom she married in 1928. They moved to the NW Angle where they farmed for many years. Her husband passed away in 1967. In 1975 she moved to Williams, to live with her brother, Ed Weisenhaus. She married Toivo Freisting in 1988 and lived in Rainy River, ON, moving to Birchwood Terrace, Kenora in 2004. She and Toivo spent many winters at their condo in Florida, and enjoyed activities such as dancing, bowling, and card games. Emma is survived by her daughter Vivian Chilson, Endicott, NY; stepdaughter Shirley (Jim) Leggett, Fanny Bay, BC; stepsons, Dan Freisting, Kenora, ON, and Edwin Freisting, Vancouver, BC. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 2 step great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren; brother Ralph (Dorothy) Weisenhaus, Chicago; sister-in-law Minnie Weisenhaus, Williams, MN; and numerous nephews and nieces. Emma was predeceased by her parents, first husband Al Gemmeke, 1967; husband Toivo Freisting, Feb 2005, 4 sisters and 4 brothers. According to her wishes, a private internment has taken place in Minnesota.
