911 emergency service begins Dec. 11th

Bell Canada announced that it is providing the area of Kenora-Dryden and the District of Rainy River with the most advanced 9-1-1 system available in North America. The system, provided by Bell Canada, is called P.E.R.S. (Public Emergency Reporting Service) and will be activated on December 11, 2001 in the District of Rainy River. *Please note that in the District of Rainy River 911 is available only to Township of Chapple: Dawson, : Township of Emo; Township of La Vallee; Lake of the Woods; Township of Morely; Northwest Bay; Rainy River First Nation; Town of Rainy River.

“We are pleased to provide the area of Kenora-Dryden and the District or Rainy River with the most sophisticated 9-1-1 system avaialble,” said Dan Ranich, Bell’s Manager of Emergency 9-1-1 Services. “This announcement further demonstrates Bell’s commitment to be continually providing our customers with more efficient and valuable services.”

9-1-1 PERS, now the standard for Ontario, uses advanced telecommunications technology to route emergency calls from home and business phones to the call answering centres. The 9-1-1 PERS database uses the caller’s telephone number and service address to iedentify the caller’s location and match it with pre-determined emergency services for the specific location.
